The IAAMB/ACWT – NBCAAM Joint Conference

The IAAMB/ACWT – NBCAAM Joint Conference
September 26-29, 2019 Seattle/ Des Moines, Washington

Goals for the Conference by Hosts Jonathan, Lisa and Lola

This is an historic conference. As president of the IAAMB/ACWT, I’m looking forward to co-hosting this conference with the NBCAAM. The NBCAAM offers the members of the IAAMB/ACWT the opportunity for National Certification in Small Animal, Large Animal Acupressure and Massage. I encourage those of you who have been waiting for the time to be right to sit for the NBCAAM exam to take it on the Friday morning at the conference, and then enjoy the rest of the weekend, relieved of the test anxiety, taking in the excellent content from our exceptional collection of presenters. I am looking forward to be sharing my insights and expertise with you in one of the continuing ed workshops and a presentation. -Jonathan Rudinger

“My goal as cohost of the conference is to provide opportunities for bonding among NBCAAM and IAAMB/ACWT members, and the wider bodyworker community, as well as meet many of our members for the first time.” -Lisa Ruthig

Hosting the NBCAAM/IAAMB/ACWT Animal Bodyworkers Conference is the culmination of a long-held dream to build on the work we have been doing for over a decade. Bringing practitioners together to foster a higher standard of practice for our industry and provide intensive educational experiences for practitioners of all animal healing arts is critical in a time when our animals and our environment need healing on a grand scale. Everything we do to make the world better for animals and the people that love them ripples out to the greater global community. Small actions done from a place of compassion and kindness can and do change the world around us. I am looking forward to witnessing that compassion from our attendees, our educators and our sponsors in September. – Lola Michelin

Bone Energy

Most touch modalities focus on either soft tissues (massage, CST, MFR, SI, MLD and so many more), energy (acupressure, Reiki, etc.), or and/or joints (chiropractic). What’s missing? The bones underlying all of it! Bones are integral to structure and are also highly energetic. This presentation by Megan Ayrault (animal bodyworker, certified Zero Balancing practitioner and founder of Power of Touch for Animals) will include some important ideas you can incorporate into your understanding of bodies and of energy, and give you some simple ways you can bring direct, non-chiropractic attention to the bone as you work with your animal clients. (Please note, this presentation will NOT be teaching Zero Balancing but some info about ZB will be included.)

Kim Bauer will be presenting a workshop on Massage and Acupressure Protocols (M.A.P.) for animals with Lola Michelin of the Northwest School of Animal Massage (NWSAM). Nutrition directly impacts equine health. An equine body worker is often on the front lines of recognizing illness in a horse as they are the ones who see the horse more frequently sometimes than the veterinarian.

Let’s explore the signs and symptoms you can look for, and the equine body worker’s role in recognizing signs of nutrition related disorders.

What and how a horse is fed has significant impact on the animal’s physical health and mental well-being. An equine bodyworker should be trained to recognize physical manifestations of nutrition-related disorders. This lecture discusses normal equine gastrointestinal anatomy, recommended feeding practices and signs of common nutrition-related disorders.
A practicing vet and the owner of Aramat Equine Services, LLC in Paauilo, Hawaii, Kellyerin is an avid three-day eventer and Sporthorse breeder. A graduate of the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, Dr. Clabaugh was an associate vet at a surgical referral center for 7 years while moonlighting as an adjunct professor of Veterinary Technology at Portland Community College. Dr. Clabaugh is a co-founder and instructor at Equi-Librium Institute, a vocational school that provides educational workshops for horse owners, professional bodywork certification training, and RACE approved continuing education for veterinary technicians.

My goal is giving a presentation at the joint NBCAAM/IAAMB conference is to provide key information about the physiological integration of fascia and acupuncture meridians. The overlap between the fascial structure and acupuncture point phenomenon are based thousands of hours of hands-on experience as a fascia integration therapist/instructor, equine acupressurist, and enhanced by my current studies to become a human acupuncturist. The rich body of experiential literature and research available for human acupuncture provides even more evidence that can be carried over to work with animals.

Your Animals Are Talking. Are You Listening?

In this fun and informative class, you will learn the how animal communication works and how it can be a valuable tool to use in your massage or bodywork practice. During this class, teacher Polly Klein, S-AMP, ACST-D and RMT, will lead you through a series of exercises designed to bring your awareness to your innate abilities to communicate telepathically with animals.

Animal communication is a form of energy work that allows for a direct telepathic “conversation” with animals. This is a great tool to use when trying to better understand how an animal is feeling physically or to gain insight into problem behaviors.

Topic: The Guide to Understanding Equine Lymphedema Market for Professionals

This presentation provides professionals an understanding of the equine lymphedema market concerns, market challenges and market opportunities. The source of this information is collaboration of owners answering HEAL’s “ Be Part of the Research Survey”, emails and conversations HEAL has had with owners. HEAL established the survey because we were unable to find any research quantifying the impact of equine lymphedema.

How to Become a Certified Equine Lymphedema Therapist: HEAL will discuss the process on how to become a certified equine lymphedema therapist. It will discuss all its courses including the home study program, online courses which include grooming, three massage sequences and 2.5 day in class sessions.

Hands-on: Learn the Layman’s Grooming Technique

The layman’s grooming technique follows the anatomical structure of the equine lymphatic system. The purpose of the grooming technique is to stimulate the lymphatic system. Explain the benefits of the technique and how if differs from the massage sequences.
